Our team

Dr. Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a board certified Supervisor (LPC-S) in the state of Virginia. She is certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (NBCCH https://www.nbcch.com/va ) a Certified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) as well as a certified Brainspotting practitioner (https://brainspotting.com/directory/name/catherine-b-smith-lpc/). She earned her doctorate from Argosy University in Counselor Education and Supervision. Dr. Smith’s research focus includes military/veterans, trauma/PTSD, anxiety as well as existential related concerns. Dr. Smith has presented nationally and regionally on topics such as managing anxiety, mindfulness, hypnotherapy and NLP. Dr. Smith is a Marine Corps veteran and an advocate for mental health wellness for veterans as well as for first responders. Dr. Smith is also serving as contributing faculty in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program with Walden University and occasionally adjuncts at Mary Washington University.

Dr. Smith is currently accepting new clients for ONLY short-term treatments on a waitlist (anticipated wait 6-8 months, however length can vary) for treatments such as Hypnotherapy, EMI and Brainspotting; these treatments can be conducted in 2-6 sessions as well as at the same time as you are continuing to see your primary talk-therapist.

Elena Morales, M.A.

Resident in Counseling/Pre-Licensed Clinician

Elena is a graduate of Northwestern University with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. She is currently working toward licensure as an LPC. Elena completed her undergraduate studies at American Public University (AMU) with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. She uses an integrative approach of person-centered and aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy to assist individuals recognize and “pull” from their strengths to achieve their goals on their personal journey. Elena has worked with young adults since 2018 as she completed her internship in college counseling. She is passionate about and is an advocate for social injustices, LGBTQ+ communities, and overall mental health well-being.

Amani McCoy, M.A.

Resident in Counseling/Pre-Licensed Clinician

Amani is a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a Master’s degree in Counselor Education with a concentration in couples & families. She is currently working toward her LPC licensure for Virginia. Amani completed her undergraduate studies at James Madison University (JMU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She completed her graduate internship in a school-based setting, working with children and young adults. Amani has experience working with clients dealing with: autism, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and general life transitions. She uses an integrative approach of person-centered and aspects of narrative therapy to help clients feel more in control of their lives and to achieve a greater sense of self-acceptance. She is open to working with children, adults, and couples.

Rosalynn Calderon, M.S.

Rosalynn received her Master of Science in Christian Counseling from Grand Canyon University. As an Air Force Veteran, who has served in various environments, Rosalynn believes it is important to know that you are not alone. There is someone who cares and is willing to be with you while handling life experiences. Whether you are dealing with day-to-day life adjustments, anxiety, depression, grief, communication, or marital challenges. Rosalynn offers support, encouragement, and accountability. She is willing to walk with you as you endeavor to take steps closer to your goal. Rosalynn is dedicated to establishing a safe environment for the truth of vulnerability while encouraging autonomy for positive and productive lifestyle changes.

Eric Snader, M.A.

Resident in Counseling/Pre-Licensed Clinician

Eric Snader is a graduate of Messiah University, with the goal of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. Eric has a specific focus on anxiety, depression, grief, loss and religious trauma. Eric views counseling from a wholistic viewpoint with a particular focus on CBT, existential counseling, and mindfulness practices. Eric is also trained in spiritual and religious dialogue, having a Masters in Theological Studies from Wesley Theological Seminary as well and has experience working with both student and adult populations. Eric is an advocate of promoting the wellbeing and empowering everyone in our community, particularly those who have historically had their voices silenced and their experiences discredited. Eric is also trained in Brainspotting and is ready to assist clients interested in engaging in this modality!

Carla Sykes, B.A.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

Carla Sykes is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. She has a special interest in helping those who are experiencing challenging life transitions, anxiety, relationship issues and experiences from the past that are impacting the present. Carla collaborates with clients to uncover what matters most to them in the areas of personal growth, relationships, family, and life goals based on their unique background and culture. She assists clients in developing goals and making actionable changes to move them closer to their vision of a meaningful life.

Carla uses different modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Reality Therapy to help clients in creating a plan to make new behavioral choices that result in measurable changes. In addition to working with adults she works with couples on effective communication skills and problem resolution.
